The Bible and Pterosaurs
نویسنده
چکیده
There is an increasing amount of archaeological and linguistic evidence that pterosaurs (flying reptiles) were mentioned by several authors of Scripture. This introductory article will deal with some of those biblical words and what I've learned about them from word studies and archaeology. The scientific basis for this study has been established by articles for peer-reviewed scientific publications for both secular and creation groups. The spiritual symbolism for these animals and cultural relevance during the biblical era will also be looked at. Finally, some implications from this knowledge will be examined.

Postcranial skeletal pneumaticity and air-sacs in the earliest pterosaurs.
Patterns of postcranial skeletal pneumatization (PSP) indicate that pterosaurs possessed components of a bird-like respiratory system, including a series of ventilatory air-sacs. However, the presence of PSP in the oldest known pterosaurs has not been unambiguously demonstrated by previous studies. Here we provide the first unequivocal documentation of PSP in Late Triassic and earliest Jurassic...
متن کاملLate Maastrichtian pterosaurs from North Africa and mass extinction of Pterosauria at the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary
Pterosaurs were the first vertebrates to evolve powered flight and the largest animals to ever take wing. The pterosaurs persisted for over 150 million years before disappearing at the end of the Cretaceous, but the patterns of and processes driving their extinction remain unclear. Only a single family, Azhdarchidae, is definitively known from the late Maastrichtian, suggesting a gradual declin...
متن کاملYou Say Periklute, I Say Paraclete: Towards a Reconciliation Between the Bible and the Quran
The Quranic statement that Jesus predicted Muhammad by name is examined in light of the expectation of what the “kingdom of God” was. The concept of the kingdom of God as being the light or fire of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost is contrasted with the Sufi concept of the “Light of Muhammad.” Pentecost could be the Light of Muhammad coming upon the apostles of Christ; the Light is the same, but kn...
متن کاملBiomechanics of the unique pterosaur pteroid.
Pterosaurs, flying reptiles from the Mesozoic, had wing membranes that were supported by their arm bones and a super-elongate fourth finger. Associated with the wing, pterosaurs also possessed a unique wrist bone--the pteroid--that functioned to support the forward part of the membrane in front of the leading edge, the propatagium. Pteroid shape varies across pterosaurs and reconstructions of i...
